Puerto Plata. Dominican Republic

The city of Puerto Plata initiated an urban planning competition to rejuvenate the national historic waterfront park of La Puntilla and to invigorate the city by promoting new tourism.

Studio BLS developed a master plan in four phases that at its core focused on a historic waterfront fortress and connections to the city via boulevards, vistas, landscaped parks and plazas. Each phase, born from program suggestions, had a unique architectural language while creating a unified soft-urban setting.

The project incorporated an outdoor theatre, an educational village with art school, museum, shops and restaurants. A marina and new waterfront park with lagoon also incorporated housing, tourist accommodations, shops and restaurants
